CDA passes audit with flying colors

January 2008 started on very positive note, we completed a thorough audit with David Keats of Speciality Welds and are proud to announce that we achieved excellent results.

Commercial Diving Academy is the only U.S. school offering this internationally recognized underwater welding program (Underwater Welding Specialist). In association with Speciality Welds, LTD of the United Kingdom we teach the Weldcraft Pro underwater welding program and certify the graduates through Speciality Welds.

The recent bridge collapses around the world have highlighted the need for well trained Commercial divers that have experience in Non-Destructive testing.

It is very difficult to weld a solid object that has no risk of breaking in service, so testing at manufacture and during use is often essential. During their service lives, many industrial components need regular nondestructive tests to detect damage that may be difficult or expensive to find by everyday methods. For example:

  • underground pipelines are subject to corrosion and stress corrosion cracking;

  • pipes in industrial plants may be subject to erosion and corrosion from the products they carry;

  • the wire ropes in suspension bridges are subject to weather, vibration, and high loads, so testing for broken wires and other damage is important.

Welding is an essential part of engineering a structure and is a skill that is part of the curriculum at The Commercial Diving Academy. We have found that our students are attracted to a career in welding  and commercial diving for a variety of reasons. Most have heard about high wages or have direct contact with someone who is working as a welder.

Commercial Diving , with welding as a specialty skill is one of the few remaining crafts used in manufacture and construction. This means that the quality of the work is dependent on the skill of the welder - you can take pride in your work as a craftsman and have a sense of achievement. There is also the continuing challenge of developing new skills to meet different situations.

Commercial diving is a transferable skill. It is not confined to one industry or one country. Divers are required for applications as diverse as bridge building, laying cross-country pipelines, oil rigs and fabricating equipment in exotic materials such as titanium.  We encourage you to browse our website to learn more about the career opportunities in Commercial Diving, or contact us for a career catalog.

The Commercial Diving Academy is proud to announce our membership as a St.Johns River Keeper.

Riverkeeper is a membership-based organization. Riverkeeper does not receive any government funding but must rely on the generous support of businesses and concerned citizens that recognize the value and importance of the St. Johns River and the work to protect it.

40 Fathom Grotto Update:

World-famous 40 Fathom Grotto is a naturally formed sinkhole located in the heart of north-central Florida’s thoroughbred racing country. It is the only place in the eastern United States where you can train, dive or play in depths of up to 200 feet or more and still:

  • Remain completely in open water, if you choose.
  • Dive year round in calm, fresh water.
  • Be largely unaffected by wind, waves, tides, currents.
