Topside Welding Specialist
This program is designed as a prerequisite for the Underwater Welding Specialist
program and is an additional four weeks. This program covers Welding Safety, Thermal
Cutting Processes, Base Metal Preparation, Weld Quality, and SMAW: Equipment and
Setup, Electrode Selection and minimum Qualification to 3G; students can achieve up to
6G Structural.
This course is run in conjunction with AWS's S.E.N.S.E program. Upon successful
completion, students may receive AWS Certificate of Completion-Certified AWS Entry
Level Welder, AWS Entry Level Welder Certification Card, Welding Qualification Record
to AWS D1.1 code from Blacksmith Marine, stamped by AWS CWI, name added to
nationally searchable AWS database, and Certificate of successful completion of Topside
Welding for Commercial Divers from CDA.
Length of Course
The program of Study at Commercial Diving Academy requires a minimum of 4 weeks. The maximum number of weeks a student may participate in training is 6 weeks.
